New US CCS chargers report for May 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in May 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 222 CCS charge points added or refreshed in May 2023, which is up from 171 in April. For comparison, there were only 74 new CCS charge points in May 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars, but so far in very few locations. If they start doing this at scale and reporting it to the Alternative Fuels Data Center then it will be reflected here.
"What about Ford vehicles with NACS (Tesla) plugs?" They are not on sale yet. Current-generation Ford vehicles have CCS plugs. The next generation will have NACS (Tesla) plugs, but will also support CCS via an adapter.

2023.05.25 13:02 CritPlusPlus Opinions on Mazda2 and Mazda3

Hi guys, I may be faced with replacing my car if the repair for it becomes to expensive. I currently have a 2013 Chevy Sonic Hatchback, and really enjoy having that body style. I'm not a car guy, and only drive 20 miles a week, at the most.
I've come across a few Mazda3s, specifically 2012 ones, but the one linked is the cheapest/fairest (I think) price - CarMax has one extremely similar for $13,000. I've also found one 2011 Mazda2, which actually has fewer miles than other cars I've come across during this last week searching, which surprised me.
I'm mainly looking for a car that has a low maintenance cost and/or is very reliable. I don't drive very far, but use it 5-6 times a week for a combined 20 miles - my job is super close to my apartment. I wanted some input on how reliable (or not) either of those cars would be.

Wolfman's Brother - Straightforward in structure, this version builds momentum by way of clever full band interplay. Trey makes his intentions known right away by shifting through multiple effects, toggling between lead playing and funk-oriented rhythm comping. The rest of the band follows suit, as the jam develops into a laid back, conversational groove session. This then patiently builds to the classic, spirited "Wolfman's" ending.
Ghost - The jam begins with an upbeat tempo anchored by cool playing from Trey. Later, the tempo slows as Mike takes the lead with deft work on the bass. Just when you think the chunky notes of the song from Trey are leading to the end of the jam, the rest of the band isn't quite ready to let things go, which leads to a maelstrom of a peak, before finally returning to end the song.
Chalk Dust Torture - Heads into low-key psychedelia-tinged jamming out of the song proper thanks to Trey's thick and goopy effects, then Page suggests major key and a pleasant groove emerges with Mike steadily holding down the fort. The jam gets more delicate and dreamy, even as Fish keeps his usual rock-solid tempo, then builds to a marvelous rock-out climax and a big-time peak thanks once again to Mike's efforts. -> into a great "Tweezer".
Tweezer - Although "average-lengthed" among all versions e'er performed, this gem-of-a-version shines, with the first few minutes of the jam featuring steady, intermittent, "Your Pet Cat"-esque chording and comping by Trey, and a melodically charming/glittering section during which Trey sustains a note for many measures (a modest peak) over excellent accompaniment (that's never dark), before the version concludes atypically with a single chord from Trey that is sustained into the first note > of "2001."
Character Zero - Trey loves MSG, a fact made clear here, when, in lieu of capping the set with a typical "Hood," he elects to floor the Garden, moving from zero to sixty in split seconds, bouncing around the room with typically rocking play (featuring a "Heartbreaker" tease) which, surprisingly, breaks for "Tweezer."
Tweezer - Your Pet "Tweezer" returns, buzzing, if not quite purring, for a few more minutes.
Character Zero - -> from "Tweezer" to cap a fun, inspired close to a set rearranged and redefined.

Suzy Greenberg was dedicated to "the hero of the song," Suzy Greenberg, who was attending her first Phish show. Trey teased Jean Pierre in 46 Days. Chalk Dust Torture was unfinished. 2001 contained Super Bad and Martian Monster teases. Mike quoted Kung and teased Plasma in Harry Hood. Run Like an Antelope - Unusual, intense and improvisational jam that almost sounds like a "SOAM" jam at times.
Split Open and Melt - The jam from this fiery, intense version was attached to the end of the song "Demand" on the studio album Hoist. In a 1994 interview, Trey noted this performance marked the beginning of a watershed, 14-month period, during which the band really clicked and coalesced on "SOAM's" complex jam rhythm. Not surprisingly, the golden age of "SOAM" overlaps with this 1993 - 1994 period of technical mastery considerably.
Weekapaug Groove - Nice interplay between Trey and Page in the breakdown section, then the jam seems to be headed for home with a fiery peak, but instead veers off-course into more improvisational jamming, gradually diminishing unfinished, and (arguably) > to "Gumbo."
Show Notes:
The jam segment of this Melt is the one that appears at the end of Demand on Hoist. The Mockingbird Narration contained a quote of the Winkie Chant ("O-Ee- Yah! Eoh-Ah!") from The Wizard of Oz . Split Open and Melt - Very improvisational and exploratory jam with excellent dynamics modulation. Awesome Mike and Trey.
Possum - Extended intro with many signals and "DEG" teases. Great jam that has a nice swingy feel to it before going full throttle.
It's Ice - Good jam and nice work by Page on the Hammond B-3. Segue to "Eliza."
Tweezer - Very melodic, enchanting jam in part. Still among the coolest versions in history.
Mike's Song - Played at slightly slower tempo, the jam includes great Mike, "HYHU"-like jamming, then a tense, spiraling jam. The 2nd jam has some unusual descending riffs, dissonance, and more spiraling tension.
Weekapaug Groove - Simmers at a rather low intensity early on with Trey's playing noticeably restrained. The jam works its way into an improvisational segment with building tension, after which the expected musical fireworks go off. Includes teases of "Happy Birthday to You" and "Linus and Lucy" as well as a birthday announcement from Trey.

most of us remember and miss the daily specials poster (always in our heart u/djmattl)! the truth is, specials and discounts change daily / mid-weekly / weekly, and it's a heck of a lot of work to keep track of them. so i want to share MY technique for finding flower deals. I have all these pages bookmarked in a chrome folder and it takes about 3 minutes to check different dispensaries and deals every morning. i've listed my top sites in alphabetical order - often you can click "specials," or just go straight to the 14g / 1 ounce flower search parameter.
I hope this help locals and weekend tourists alike! because there are 60+ dispensaries in LV, i've left out quite a few - but these dispensaries i've listed i've judged (after the past year living here and visiting them all) to be the most convenient and also offer consistent deals - and DO NOT rip you off. -------- curaleaf western ave: and vegas strip: - always $50 halves / $100 ounces, sometimes $45 / $80). similar products at both locs (kynd, tryke, grassroots, clover creek organics, vada) but different stock. curaleaf strip has a drive-thru so you can go in your jammies. NO locals / vet / senior discount, but 2.5% back rewards (until you hit $800 spent, then you get 5% back). double points on tues.
the dispensary: - the dispensary was taken over by new management late last year and since then "deals" have been kinda sparse. they used to do $30 1/2 ounces of shake, but the price now even on special is $50, and it's more a baker's batch with sticks and sugar leaves. only including them because they 're conveniently located and occasionally they'll do 30% off entire store (which still isn't really a deal). 5% back rewards.
essence / rise: - including for convenience. deals change bi-weekly, but they're not really deals, imo (3-4 eighths for $99). essence and rise are the same company, 5 locations - s rainbow, LV strip - the popular cookies!, tropicana west, s durango, henderson. last summer they did an &shine; $100 ounce special (of great stuff--cereal milk, burned toast, jack herer) that came in a oz glass mason jar, so i'm holding out for that again this year haha.
euphoria wellness: - always $99 ounces / $59 half oz, with occasional $89 / 49 special (specials change daily). often some great stuff from redwood (cheech & chong's, willie's, firestar). they've recently started a $79 half / $149 oz deal, which i do not appreciate, of those same flower brands with higher thc.
exhale - deserves a mention for discounts and 24 hr drive thru. 30% off from 3am - 5 am, ONLY through drive thru, and 20% off between 3pm - 5:30pm (drive thru OR pick up) - which means lowest price for a 1/2 oz of flower would be $70 before tax. they have a ton of great growers (NC, redwood, trendi, GLP, grower circle). exhale does a bunch of food drives / giving back to community so they're good peeps even if their deals aren't great.
green cannabis co: - first time customers get 20% off - does NOT apply to sales. I never bother with their "specials" menu, just go right to the flower ounces and 1/2s - $99-119 ounces and $59-69 half ozs from different brands (red earth, whisper wild), stock always changing. located way west / off hualapai.
jardin: - consistent $100 / oz, $61 / half oz special featuring mostly questionable different-brand strains under 17% thc...though there are some gems every now and then. walking inside lets you avoid a random $1.50 "cash" curbside charge. they do have a points system (i think 5% back) but you can't use these points on specials. specials change daily / weekly. always 10 / $50 prerolls with differing brands (AMA, BAM, superior) if you're feeling lazy. easy east location off desert inn rd.
medizin: - owned by the same peeps that own p13, no real flower deals except a $52 / half oz first-time delivery-only special. they have a drive-thru. they offer $90-100 / half oz specials, not really a deal imo.
oasis - 5% points back for locals, 20% industry, 25% veterans. wildly varying specials and for past several months $40 /half oz naked city flower (mostly under 16% thc). some of their best flower isn't included in their specials, though - menu < flower < 14g search can sometimes turn up good stuff. beware - they don't update their menu in real time, and good luck arriving to get a preorder (if something's out of stock they don't bother calling to let you know).
planet 13: - including for convenience and novelty. right off the strip. always fun to look at the specials, but you won't find any real deals here (really only $80-$100 / 1/2 ounce flower specials). locals discount is a shoddy 3%.
